Casio and Professional Golfer Ryo Ishikawa to Sign Sponsorship Contract
TOKYO, April 10, 2013 — Casio Computer Co., Ltd., announced today that it has reached a basic agreement to conclude a three-year sponsorship contract with professional golfer Ryo Ishikawa. In the future, Ishikawa will participate in golf tournaments as a Casio-sponsored athlete.
Ryo Ishikawa
Ryo Ishikawa began playing golf at the age of six. He made his debut on the Japan Golf Tour in 2007 while still a high school student, and became the youngest winner of a professional golf tournament in the world by prevailing at the Munsingwear Open KSB Cup at the age of 15 years and 245 days. The following year Ishikawa turned pro, and he went on to accumulate about 100 million yen in winnings by age 17. In 2009, he became the youngest prize money list leader on the tour at age 18, and arose as one of the biggest stars in Japanese men’s golf. Ishikawa has been based in the United States since this season and is building on his golf skills by competing in the US PGA TOUR.
Guided by its corporate creed of “creativity and contribution,” Casio is expanding its business globally to offer new value to people all over the world. Recognizing that Ryo Ishikawa’s determination to pursue the highest goals on the world stage represents a spirit of challenge befitting the company’s corporate creed, Casio decided to seek the sponsorship agreement.
Casio president Kazuo Kashio welcomed the sponsorship contract, saying, “We are delighted to support Ryo Ishikawa, a golfer who has exceptional talent and total determination to achieve his goals. Ryo is an outstanding representative of the new generation of Japanese golf. We hope that Casio can play a part in helping him reach the world’s top golf rankings in the future.”
Ryo Ishikawa had this to say: “Not only holding the Casio World Open golf tournament, Casio has been contributing to the game of golf in various ways for many years. I am honored and very happy to have reached this agreement with Casio on the sponsorship contract. As a Casio-sponsored athlete, I will work hard in the future so that I can play at a level that meets the expectations of all my supporters.”
