Casio to Start Up New Logistics Base,
Strengthening Sales in South America

Operated by Casio Latin America in Uruguay

TOKYO, January 31, 2012— In order to reinforce sales in South America, in August 2011 Casio Computer Co., Ltd. established Casio Latin America S.A. in Montevideo, Uruguay, as a logistics management company. In January 2012, Casio Latin America began operating the Uruguay Central Warehouse as a new logistics base for South America.

In order to expand its business in the high-growth Central and South American market, Casio has expanded the function of Casio Brasil from a domestic sales company to the base for sales and marketing for the whole region. Operations under this new system began in October 2011. For logistics however, it has been necessary to ship products from China, where a good deal of Casio’s production takes place, directly to each country in Central and South America. This means it takes at least one month from order placement to delivery, which has constrained Casio’s efforts to rapidly respond to the needs of consumers in the region.

This is why Casio Latin America has created a logistics system that can ship products as soon as they are ordered by sales distributors in various South American countries. This is achieved through unified management of products destined for Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay, which are members of Mercosur, the region’s trade organization, and for Chile, which is an associate member.

The system not only enables better efficiency through combined shipments from China, but since Montevideo, the new logistics site, is located in a free trade zone in Uruguay, it also made it possible to develop a trucking network for transport to countries in the Mercosur. Products can be sent to Buenos Aires, Argentina in 24 hours, and to Sao Paulo, Brazil, to Asuncion, Paraguay, and to Santiago, Chile in periods of 72 to 96 hours.

As a result, Casio is now able to deliver the products that South American consumers need in a very timely fashion. Since this provides great advantages to distributors on the continent, it will also facilitate greater sales for Casio.

Casio aims to further expand its business in Central and South America, by cooperating with distributors in the region, not only in sales and marketing, but also in logistics.
